Cheap second battery ....

i've got a charger at home, what would i need? so my first idea would be "ok" as a temp bandaids if i got an isolator to go with it?

and what resting rate should a battery be if it's not 12.4?

Yeah temp here get as low as -40 celcius ( that's **** cold) and my car something has trouble starting in those weather but never fail on me....

So isolator (i'll be using it on my next car too) + big and cheap walmart/ canadiantire lol battery (marine ok?) = a ok band-aid for few months?

If you already have a charger, that is one less thing to buy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

Your flooded starting battery should be 12.6v with a full charge. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

If your current starting battery starts your car without any issues, then by all means, keep it. Just add a back battery and isolate it from the front. That will also help keep your front battery charged more because it won't have to help power your music anymore. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You know what the isolator does?

If you put the battery in the back, you could even go with a 3000 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

It will support quite a bit of current draw/wattage with your next vehicle when/if you upgrade.

Do you know of an isolator that's more than 250a?

Do you know of an isolator that's more than 250a?
The largest I could find was a 200A diode based unit, but you can parallel them to make a 400A isolator //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

i know what it does but that's all... 250amp current isolator needed?
You need an isolator rated to be at lest the output of your alt. So if you have an alt less than 200A, I would get the 200A isolator. That way, you could use it in a new build with a bigger alt if needed.

how should i charge my batt btw? what amp? how long?
That depends on the battery. If you told me which battery, I could tell you more.

sold my type r last night so i got some money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i'll be visiting local shot to see what i can get on the low. Do you think local shop like canadiantire got battery isolator?

What should i be looking for in a second battery for my trunk? cca is not important on a non-starter battery from what i've read. Does it got to be dry cell? what specs most important for lower voltage drop and listening music without car on???

Here are a short list of attributes you MUST look for in a new battery:

1) AGM, not flooded

2) Deep cycle

3) Sealed

4) Ah rating > 100Ah

I know of a guy who bought his Kinetik in Canada. I am not sure if it was on this forum or another that I was on, but he was worried about the cold cranking ability of the Kinetik up there in the cold. He bought the HC1800 for his front battery in a small truck and it worked fine for him. I think he said that he bought it from a local audio shop.

Also, I just went to the Kinetik website and it gives a contact in Canada as:

Location: Canada

Company: Gem-Sen

Contact: Rolf Juraschka

Phone: 905-660-3110

Email: rolfj@gemsen.com

Website: http://www.gemsen.com

btw canadian dealers are extremely expensive... a type r 12sub sell like 279,99$ +tax over here so that's like 340$ tax included....

I sold my type r 12s for 250$ a pair yesturday and the guy tough he made a super deal, just to give you an idea //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
