Chassis ground vs cable ground..

always new people learning, and a person is not going to go through every single thread that was in this forum, especially when 99.99% of poeple tell u to use chassis groung

well if you think about it. a small length of cable wire VS a whole 1-2 ton steel frame. Which one has more surface area? Even if the copper is more conductive metal, surface area wins in this fight. Now however, if your going 3 or 4 dedicated 1/0 or 2/0 runs, then thats a totally different story.

The only thing to take into serious consideration here is that manufacturers are beginning to use epoxies to fasten body panels together. On unibody cars that will invariably make it more difficult to find a panel that has a good ground path back to the battery. Couple that with the increased strength and lowering cost of composites and at some point, it will require two conductors from the battery throughout the vehicle in order make pretty much everything work.

But... we aren't at that point yet with anything more than a handful of uncommon vehicles.

^^ thats very true, every year car companies are looking for ways to cut costs and lower weight to improve fuel efficiency. Especially with the frame, it'll be pretty much all cheap aluminium with no traces of steel left.

Exactly why I drive an 11 year old land yacht. I'll take my Grand Marquis over any new car. Vehicles just not made very well now a days, unless you getting a luxury vehicle. Cheap materials and cost cutting everywhere you look.

To each his own and while I drive a 15 year old truck, it isn't because I have a problem with new vehicles. No doubt there are some cheap cars out there... there were 40 years ago as well. But the fact is, technology changes and for the most part it makes things stronger, lighter and longer lasting.

In reality, the cockpit of the average 2014 compact car has more creature comfort and definitely more technology in it than that of a 20 year old luxury car.

You should use the search function and simply bump the old thread if you think it's worthy of the front page.
