Changing out my DD comps for Memphis Coax's

The DD's are good. But, I'm new to tuning and they just dont sound right anymore. Before I install the Memphis Mclass coaxials ill give the DD components a once over on tuning one more time. Only prob is, If I do use these coaxials im going to have holes where the tweeters went. Unless I can use my DD tweeters with the coaxials. If I can, how do I do it?

this is where the whole will be, i mounted them next to my mids

I came a long way from making custom component mounts. this was my last setup LOL.

Those were RE RE comps

Depends on the sound you are looking for.

The DD's will likely have far better mid and extend lower, highs can be tweaked to sound reasonably natural.

The memphis coax are know to have bright highs and not that easy to tame, reasonable mid, not that stong low extension.

The DD comps give you much more room to tweak the sound to you liking. I bet you are boosting the EQ far to much right now. Remember, it is better to reduce than to boost.

lol, glad to see that I am not alone in thinking that the OP is moving in the wrong direction. 9 times out of 10 I would take a component set over a coaxial set, just for the options. The only time I would choose a coaxial these days is if I was limiting a system to a specific budget OR if it was one of those convertible coaxial sets that could be used as components.

Well i'm going to sound quality. I listened to them in the show room at the shop, then in one of the employees cars and they sounded great. I'm not looking for much midbass. I guess ill tweak my DD's again cause they were sounding great, but someone drove my car and decided they knew what they were doing and totally fuct up my EQ settings. They are rated much higher than what my amp puts out (60 x 2) and they bottom out before i get any midbass. They dont seem to be blown.. I dunno. I just loved the sound of those memphis mclass coaxials. thx for the info. I think i'll stick with my DD's. I was using an 8" Mclass sub as a trade in on the coaxials, so I guess ill just use that sub as a trade in on the Hertz ESK 165 comp set instead.

You do realize that the show room in the shop is a totally different environment from your actual vehicle doors don't you? I learned a long time ago that the showroom is virtually useless with regards to how speakers will actually perform in the car.

You must have missed the part where I said I went outside and listened to them in one of the employees cars.

Shitting tuning w/ comps = shitty tuning w/ coaxials.

Why not fix your problem instead of plugging more money into some that probably wont help. Do you have deadened doors? Power RMS?

Doors are not deadened, no. I need to redo my MDF on my mids and make them more air tight, and ill eventually deaden. Its ok ive changed my mind. I'm just going to pickup the Hertz ESK 165 set

Was the employee's vehicle identical to yours? Same power, same vehicle, same exact setup, same EQ curve, etc.? If not, you are still looking at two completely different animals.

Car audio is 90% setup, 7% equipment choice, and 3% alcohol.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

+1

We seldom sale the DD comps because the memphis are brighter, the DD are nice and flat.
