changing display brightness DC908

simple question about a very very simple car stereo.

is there a standard way to adjust the brightness of the display?

this unit (a Philips DC908) came installed on a van we just purchased, the display is very very dim (almost illegible) but I cannot find a user manual online anywhere.

Now this might just be a busted unit where the display is messed up.

but I was hoping either someone has had one of these or that there is some standard way to adjust brightness on these types of units.

Most likely the back lit bulb is out

If the backlight bulb is out, would the display show anything at all?

This currently shows a little bit of display.

Your seeing the LCD ..the backlighting bulb is called a wheat grain bulb it high lights the lcd it’s most likely a 4mm 12v bulb common in early Blaupunkt decks as well

taking the faceplate apart, the circuit board looks like a pretty "sealed" unit.

do you think I would find a light bulb behind that metal LCD cover?

I wouldn’t think there would be a bulb behind the cover ..I keep trying to get the image to blow up ..but having troubles..do all the other face plate graphics light up ?
