Cavalier door speakers

Everyone knows its a pain to do car audio with a Cavalier.

The speaker size for a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier is 4x6. The shape of it is a weird oval.

What did you guys do for new speakers in the doors of a Cavalier? Did you use 6x9s, 6x8s, or 6-3/4" circle speakers, or any other type of speaker? How did you go about installing speakers into the Cavalier?

i had 5x7s in mine, i just made a set of mdf rings and they worked just fine.

I did pods in the door panel. I am sure you can do a 6 1/2 baffle ring and have them flush mount or something.

mdf rings, are mounting ring/baffles that you cut out of mdf anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 inch

pods, are small enclosures made of mdf or fiberglass that house the mids.

Well probably do an mdf ring. Now that I remember we did fit the 3/4 in Phoenix's door so youre good on that set of comps

Get these:

Then get a 6.5 that has a short surround and a narrow mounting depth. The MB Quart PVI 216 works very well so you can use that as a reference for dimensions. I currently have some JBL Power 6.5 speakers in my doors but I had to cut apart the speaker grill and use it as a 1/2 spacer so the speakers didn't rub on the door. I suggest getting something that also has a simple speaker grill like:

You could install just the trim ring and leave the mesh piece off making a spacer so the speaker doesn't hit the panel.

I have a 04 cavi and currently I have clarion 4x6's in front , I used the factory mount just used a deburing bit on a cordless drill to widen a few spots. I am getting ready to upgrade to 6.5 componets for a sq setup. I plan on using mdf rings for them, thickness of the mdf will depend on how deep of a speaker you get . I think on the jbody forum they say you can run a componet with a depth of 2 1/2 in. but im could be wrong. You could check there, but be carefull they flame people regulary for not using the search function.
