i currently have a 42" Vizio LCD and now that summers approaching i can already tell im going to want to sell this TV for bigger one for next semester (my senior year)

what is the TV to look at right now.... heres my goals / usages

TV is usually used as my laptop monitor

trying to keep price under $2,000

screen gets alot of usage and sometimes stays on so i wanted to stick to LCD

want bigger than 42"

my internet and cable provider will be Verizon Fios so i think 1080p should be a must...

let me know what you guys think i should start researching for summer

i heard its was bad to leave an lcd on for long periods at a time...idk..heard it through the grapevine.

But I had an LG it was a 52". Picked it up at a rental place used for about $1400

my friend has a vizio(plasma) and i noticed it. but it went away after 5 seconds.

Plasma burn-in is not something that can be fixed, but newer models are less prone to burn-in unlike the older stuff.

i saw the 52" Vizio but i hate the styling on it...its alot like my 42" theres a 46" Vizio that looks completely different than either one of those and i have no idea why...

I sell these things (well my people do) for a living.. here is the scoop...

Your using it for a computer montior and leave it on a lot with a screen going. You need a LCD. Plasma tv's are a little better then they used to be, but trust me when I tell you, you do not want to leave a computer picture on one of them for a long time.

LCD's pretty much come in 40, 42, 46, 47 and 52 inch models. Not every brand makes every size. Solid companies to look in that price range are..

LG

Toshiba

Sony (if you can find the 52w3000 (last years model)

Brands that are in that price range for sure but are pretty much crap are..

westinghouse

vizio

Ilo

BTW NOBODY broadcast in 1080p yet, not even Vios. Currently Blu-Ray is the only way to get a 1080p picture and you will need more than just a 1080p set to really see it come to life, but that is a whole other story.

Well I have a Westinghouse and it works pretty dam good. Just as good as my Sony Bravia XBR5 46". Picture on HD is just as good, but don't get the good blacks and I have had problems with my Sony as I havent yet with my Westinghouse. Only complaint on the Westinghouse is the cheap *** remote is truely cheap!

You are right about the 1080p. I have a blu ray player, which looks amazing on the Sony.

My HD channels look about on PAR though with each TV. Hard to tell what looks better. Thing is I paid 800 for the Westinghouse 37" LCD and I got a heck of a deal on my Sony and got that for 3000. So yeah............

agreed...i had the 42" Vizio and i would say its far from crap...im just looking to upgrade to bigger...so would it be in my interest to get a 52" 720p TV instead or save up a little extra and get a 1080 set?
