i don't know about other brands, but i know that VW/Audi use Vag-com , you have to connect the obd-2, into the car system, and you can enable and disable a lot of little features.

buy the way, when you get a rental car these days you should watch out too, they might be watching your abusiviness, but then why do you par insurance, eh
