Carpeting the box

Hey all, this might be a strange question, but I'm tossing around ideas for a complete trunk design and was wondering when choosing carpet, does it need to be a specific kind (aka, heat rated) or will any work? I was going to carpet the sides where my amps will be bolted, and I was thinking plush carpet, but I'm concerned about a fire hazard. Do I have anything to worry about or am I just being over-cautious? Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Any carpet IMO would do and if youre worried about it heating up, drill holes where the mounting points will go...install anchors there and get bolts that match the anchors...get a handful of those plastic washers and a couple nuts that fit the bolt as well..

And then put a washer onto the bolt and put it through the amps mounting foot...then put a washer on then a nut onto the underside of the foot and tighten it down to hold onto the amp...and then with all 4 feet like this there will be a space inbetween your amp and the carpet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

(Or, to make it a bit easier you may want to just loosely put on the washer then nut unto the underside of the bolt....then tighten the bolt into the enclosure....then tighten the nut up into the amps feet)

That's a great idea, it should help with airflow/ventilation as well. Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

holy hell.....simply ha:wow:

Thanks for the help guys. I have one more question regarding carpet...

I was going to put a layer of Damplifier Pro down all around the trunk, and cover it in in something like this type of carpet.

It says it's "unbacked", I'm wondering how does it adhere to the surface? Is this type of carpet OK to apply with something like contact cement, or should I get a latex-backed carpet like this one?

Thanks!

get unbacked carpet if you need a better "stretch" over rounded surfaces or sharp edges. contact cement is fine to get it to adhere, be a little more on the light-handed side. i usually use contact cement on the wood/metal/fiberglass non-porous (or LESS porous) surface, and a light coat of Super 77 or the Select Products spray adhesive on the carpet side. I don't use contact cement on the unbacked fabrics themselves but it may be fine to, i just like to play it safe

So basically the only real difference between the backed vs. unbacked carpeting is the flexibility of it? I shot the guys over at yourautotrim.com a line about it but they haven't gotten back to me yet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
