Having one at all.

a good friend of mine recently installed his deck into this car and somehow crapped it up. now my dad is saying NO across the board to any audio unless I can prove to him that everything that i want to do will be practical and won't mess up the automobile. I am asking for your sincere help as this is very important to me and I wouldn't flame or wh0re up anyone else's threads of this type. ok I need REAL evidence that these things will work ok. this is what i need from you all:

1. I want to run a battery in the front and run a yellow top in the back so I can save the alternator. i will be running ~2200 or so watts to the DD 9515 (already bought). what I need for this part is:

a. how the extra battery will take strain off the alternator and how it is better for the electrical system

b. how I will keep the battery in place and secure in the trunk

2. What will I do with the spare tire such that I will still have it in the car, but it won't be under the subwoofer box

3. How I won't ruin my door panels by installing new coaxials in the stock locations

4. how the installation of the head unit (this is really the worst for him somehow) won't jeapordize anything in the car

I really need your guys' help, as it would mean an incredible amount to me if you would help and if I can still make a setup. thanks.

This is common sense, safe install practices...try to assure him that you'll properly fuse anything that needs to be fused, insulate and protect any wires with potential to short out on something, and have a thorough understanding of Ohm's Law so you won't melt things in the process //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have the opposite problem with my parents, hehe...my dad can't be trusted around anything electrical. He's great with engines, but if it has voltage and current, forget it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

^^^ can we get a delete please?

no see this is part of the problem. before he was a doctor, my dad was a mechanic from hs-college. he thinks that car audio is the same as it was back then, and he wont change his views unless I can prove it to him.

thank you frost

icetee, why do people add a seperate battery in the trunk then? i was aware that it is to lessen voltage drops aka the amp working harder to supply enough for the amplifier.

The batteries lessen the voltage drop, yes...but how do the batteries get charged? From the alternator //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

More Ah = more of a load for the alt to have to keep up with...

so if that is the case, why is it prudent to install another battery into the system when you can't upgrade the alternator? a friend of mine ran a gel cell ( not a optima) in his trunk and stock under the hood with his 2200 watt amp without problems. i'm pretty sure that he would have if he was using the stock battery up front on the stock alternator

what is Ah?

it stabilizes the voltage so you don't get drops, but it's another device that needs to get charged and if you are struggling just trying to keep the main battery charged and amps running, adding another draw on the alt doesn't seem logical.

ok cause i was thinking of running a red top or stock under the hood with a yellow top in back. what about just a yellow top up front?

Amp hours - the measurement of current delivery over time.

i agree with icetee. Yes it helps to have that current on hand but you might as well just get a large 20F or higher cap. They have a quicker charge and discharge rate than a battery which would be better IMO than another battery. Once either is depleted or has a voltage drop below that of the alt, the alt is gonna be running at full force to equalize that voltage. ie all the current it can supply.

big 3 seems kind of out of the question right now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

tooling around with wires under the hood probably isn't what he is wanting to hear. but i will run 1/0 to the amp and grounds.

i'm glad your dad isn't my dad //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif tell him you'll cause more damage by not doing the big 3.
