Car to home stereo?

wanna post some pics. i would liek to mess around and do something like this since i have a 5.1 car amp.

I'm just not sure on how to power the amps.

you do realize if you are just gonna hook it up to a car battery in your house you are gonna get about 15 minutes of play time and the battery will need to be recharged

FWIW the easiest way to power car amps for home is to mod a computer power supply

how do i do that?

oh and btw, when i loop it i still get no power

is there a way to mod my power chord to plug into the wall?

or can someone give me info on how to mod the power suply to that

You can do this one of three ways for those wanting to know.

And if you are not using a car headunit as the source signal yes, you'll want to loop the remote activation input back to the amp's positive power input to get the unit to turn on.

You can either ~

(a) Bring a car battery in the house and connect the mobile equipment directly to it (power & ground). If you do not wish this little experiment to be very short-lived, yes you'll want to have a battery charger handy as well. Bear in mind that most car batteries emit toxic fumes. This method is by far the worst method albeit oftentimes the easiest to pull off using gear you already have around.

(b) Mod a computer power supply (or multiple ones) and give the mobile gear power that way. I do not know how to go about this but if you'll search it has been discussed in detail on CA.com before so go find it.

© Use a 12vdc power supply like is commonly used by CB radio enthusiasts and ham operators around the world. Frequently it is less expensive to buy mobile transmitting gear and bring it in the house as opposed to buying equipment meant to be plugged into 120vac. This method can be quite costly in the short term because a power supply of this type can be prohibitively expensive once you get into the models which make enough amperage to run anything more than a headunit alone.

My 35a power supply ran me $115 and my 50a one was almost $200. The upside to having one of these is that once you own one (and they last for years if taken care of) you'll always have the right type of current for a test bench should you ever set one up. If you buy some used audio gear it's much nicer to test it in the house prior to bothering to go through the hassle of installing it in your ride. If there was a hidden malfunction which hadn't previously been disclosed by your seller would you rather find it before or after you go through the trouble of putting it in the car/truck/whatever? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i would use a power supply.....30 amps and up...depending how much amps your amplifier/head unit...ect.... requires....(radio shack sells power supplies)......

instalation:

*there will be a positive and negative terminal on the power supply.

*remote and power terminal from amplifier will go on the positve terminal on the power supply.

*ground will go on the negative terminal on the power supply.

*if you turn on the power supply and everything is hooked up properly the amps should turn on too.

*head units follow the same procedure....
