Car stereo brands: Personal preference or ?

I prefer Sony, if only because of the reputation Sony has in the electronics industry.
you musn't know about sony's rep in the car audio industry... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I heard 27" orion Tv's are underrated, and they put out like 42" @ .5 ohms...

And i heard mitsubishi vcr's are stable at like 18psi on stock internals....

Buying sony speakers because they make good..... um..... playstations? is pretty pathetic, my man. I would probably delete that post and pretend you didn't just say that.

By reputation, I mean reliability and number of warranty returns. I have never had any problems with any of Sony's products, which is why I stay with Sony. The four electronics brands that I have had the best experiences with (and the fewest problems with) are Sony, Sharp, Toshiba and Insignia. I chose Sony because all of the Sony products I use can easily outlast their warranty without breaking down. Most Sony products I have used had a warranty of only 1 year parts and labor, but those same products are still working flawlessly 5 years after I bought them. All of the Sony, Sharp, Toshiba, and Insignia products I have used all work flawlessly, but then again, I get all of them through places I know and trust, like Best Buy, Circuit City, Nebraska Furnature Mart, or directly from the company themselves.

Edit: I have this firm belief that anything that does not work flawlessly should be destroyed.

With all due respect judging by your age (no offense intended here) your "experiences" have alot left to be desired.

Sony's fine if you never get out of the entry level equipment, and don't expect much out of it.

I suppose they are building some decent HU's in recent years.

Their amps, speakers and subs are below average, average at best. Most all of their amp designs are very generic, but priced more like a mid-level product.

It's great that you've had good luck with them, but honestly, they just aren't that good.

It is what it is.

So far, I have not had any problems with the Sony setup in my car, and until I do, I'm not all that worried about it. Besides, I have seen plenty of situations where people make installation mistakes or run too much power and kill the Sony stuff, then they blame the problem on Sony itself instead of on their own mistakes. Its pathetic that people refuse to blame themselves for mistakes they make. Hell, I know this one guy who hates Sony all because "it can't handle 1,000W of power". He tried running a 1,000W RMS mono amp to two 12" Sony Xplod subwoofers (which are only rated for 380W RMS) and killed the subwoofers, and now he's blaming the problem on Sony instead of on himself.

Id be more than happy to own up to a mistake IF I made one. Adding an amplifier/HU/speakers to a car is not a difficult task and only Very minimal knowledge is needed to do so. In my (many) years of business Ive had ALOT of defective Sony products, this I assure was not due to installer error.
