Sound Issue with my Pioneer car stereo

I have a 2006 Impala LT. I installed two 6x9 in the rear deck along with door speakers and tweeters in the pillars. I also have installed a head unit and an amplifier. Everything is Pioneer.
I have been having intermittent sound issues for roughly a year. When I first installed the system it worked fine and really rocked. It has always had an alternator whine that I could overlook by turning up the volume. The issue is that when I turn the volume past ten the sound cuts out but the head unit remains on. Sometimes I have to disconnect the car battery and reconnect to get sound back.
I have replaced the alternator with a brand new one. I'm stumped by this issue and if someone could help me out I'd appreciate it greatly. Thank you.

Is the amp's ground good a proper ground?

I'm pretty sure it is. The ground wire is roughly one foot long and grounded to the trunk floor near the amp. I did grind the paint away before screwing in the ground wire terminal.

Then I'd check/upgrade engine bay grounds. I'd also hunt for shorts on the output side of the amplifier. Try disconnecting the speakers one by one to try and isolate a bad speaker. Is the amp tripping the protection circuit and if so which one is it tripping???

I will do that but the funny thing is all the speakers are only two years old and have never been overpowered. The connections are very well done and the door speakers have a water cover over them.

I had a similar issue and mines was caused by my fuse holders getting hot and melting, compromising the connection but not burning the fuse. I upgraded my power wire, and the problem was resolved. Also, I've read that this can be caused by an amp going into protection mode. Which in turn is caused by improperly set amp gains. The gain is not a volume knob, so find out what the output of your head unit is and match it on your amplifier. You can find it in the specs.
