Car problems, need help

started my car today, and when i did the car sounded like it was working to start. almost like it was flooded. well it started engine light was on and it was jugging and you could feel the car running rough. well i took off hoping it was going to work it out,(me being stupid) well as i gave it gas it wouldnt pick up speed to fast and it started to pop, like it was missing or at least thats what i think it sounded like. well i drove it around the block so i wouldnt do anymore damage and parked it. what does this situtation sound like to you besides me rambling. sorry for the gigantic sentence. its a 4cyl. 2.2 chevy cavalier coupe, 112000 mile on it.
