I just tested the remote output wire on the head unit and I was getting power from it even when the car was off. I had the negative of the dmm on the black wire, which im assuming was the ground? and the positive of the dmm on the remote output cable from the head unit.
I spliced the blue and white remote output wire with the red ignition switch wire as suggested, but even when the key wasn't in the ignition, the head unit and amp still powered on.
There must be something wrong with the head unit if I am still getting a signal from the remote output even if the car is off?
I also took some pictures of how it is all wired, if you could take a look and tell me if there is something obviously wrong, please let me know. Keep in my mind I was not the one who wired this deck in, was a buddy of mine.
First one is the Remote output wire and the red ignition switch wire spliced together, amp and head unit powers on when key is out of ignition.
Second is blue and white remote output wire from the head unit spliced directly to the blue remote wire that goes to the amp, amp powers on when car is off, head unit doesn't power on when car is off.
Third is just a closer up pic.
Please help me out here, I feel this problem led me to accidentally ruin my old amplifier by constantly having to open up and close the trunk during the winter in order to power off the amp, causing me to get snow on the amp and ruin it...
