Car engine is shot.

my baby is dying on me. took it to the local garage today, the mechanic said it was either a rod (new engine) or lifters. if it was the lifters my oil light would be on as the engine would have next to no oil pressure. oil light remains off. most likely the rod is knocking //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif. well, she does have alot of miles on her, it may just be her time.

Rod... Uhhh I threw a rod once. Left a hole in my block the size of a nickle. My poor 68 280z. I loved that little rocket.

hmmm, that one sounds rough. so far its just the rod bearing knocking. she has 161k+ miles on her. rebuild wont really be doable. new engine, or salvaged engine. im probably just going to pick up a old gmc rally van from my friends parents. 500 bucks and runs like a champ.

i ran the hell out of my motor for like 3 months with a spun rod bearing and that motor would not die, matter of fact, u should see it now. its one built 4banger

Um you need to change mechanics fast!!

A spun rod bearing does not do shit to the block so yes you CAN rebuild it. Furthermore, lifter noise is pretty **** common. My 3vze has had lifter noise since day one with 60,000 miles. Now that it has 256,000 miles it has the same lifter noise. If I were you I'd switch over to a synthetic 20w50 and keep an eye on its color. The moment it starts to turn black change it. **** the interval changing crap - if it turns black on you CHANGE IT. I'd also think that a valve job is in your future.

If you dont have a pushrod engine, your valve shims my need to be replaced with slightly thicker units. Mine do. Look to the factory service repair manual for how to do that with your specific engine. Anything by Chiltons bites *** and is a waste of money.
