Car Audio Schools?

Who has attended them? Which one have you attended? The reason i ask is because i am planning to go to one of the schools i just wanted to hear some people's opinions on the schools. The main schools i am considering are:

Acoustic Edge(a little expensive)

Mobile Dynamics

MT2

If anyone has attended one of these schools let me know what you thought of it. Did you learn what you were expecting to? How much hands on work is there? Please only people that have attended or know somebody that attended reply to this thread, i do not want biased opinions. I am simply looking for the best training for the money. If there are any other schools that may be better than these please inform me on that too.

I already have the MECP Basic Installers study guide so i can take the test but i want to be very well rounded in all the aspects of this trade, and i do not believe a study guide can do that. I need to get some hands-on exp. so i am asking what school would give me the best hands-on training?

You'd be better off to hang around a shop & watch.. sure, schools will give you a certificate, but it's hard to find a school that is majority of hands-on..

My buddy is currently going to MECP & he's done LOTS of hands-on stuff..

I have already ran several installs but it was not anything complex. I built the boxes(sealed everytime) and ran all the wires but all the installs were only 1 amp(for the subs)which were 2 12's(in each install) and replacing the door speakers. I want to be able to do the more complex installs and be able to install anything. So what school is recommended? Location does not matter obviously.

Man....you can go to school to get MECP certified....anywhere from the Installer Institute(which my friend's dad owns) in Daytona Beach to Mobile Dynamics in Canada. But, fortunately in the car audio/video world school doesn't make good installers. Experience is what is needed, that way through trial and error, someone can become accomplished without fronting 5k to go to school and waste your money. Good luck, but in this field, experience pays off well.

Yeah it's in Cali

But best thing to do is just to work somewhere and watch

A person I know at tweeter attended one in boston for 2 months, said it was extremely difficult and few people passed in the end

There's also one in RI which is supposedly much more simple but very expensive to go to

I'd just try to be a salesman then pick up stuff off of the installers

or just stop by on a weekend and see if they allow you to watch, and say you're going for an mecp certification

btw, for the mecp certification it's required you have at least some work experience in mobile electronics in the first place(but they don't check so it's good to go)

When you install for a store anyway, usually they use a small booklet or web form that tells you the directions to installing car specific anyways!

The guide helps you understand diodes and ohms etc, it won't really help you install car specific, neither will a school, you'll just get the experience of installing for a few cars is all

i attended mt2 and i must say its a great school. alot of their learning is hands on. some theory like with relays and basic electronics but even with that its hands on. i would say look into mt2 i went there and didnt regret it. im actually going back to take the upholstery course to do interiors. great experienced staff also.

There is no way for me to get experience. All the shops require MECP certified to work. And i do not have the money to buy all the equipment that i need to learn how to install.
