Car Audio School???

I don't understand why people goto school for this stuff... it's not hard. Sure I work at circuit city, but i got offered a job at a local shop... now I'm moving onto a shop that has high clientel(sp?) instead of just doing alarms and radios all day... and I just do it for spending money while I'm going to school. Shit's not hard to learn, I don't see what the use of a school is. Everything I learned was on my own hands on, or with friends from local shops. Only thing I might do is, invest in a snakepit class...

If I were you I'd goto a actual college and get a degree in business management... you can make money installing, but the big money is in management or owning your own business.

And to tell you the truth... coming straight from the mouth of two reputible shop owners, "mobile dynamics and those schools dont' mean shit to me". They want people that have experience or have work to show off. Not just someone coming in saying "i just finished mobile dynamics, are you hiring?".

I know someone who went to mobile dynamics... and he even tells me i'm more knowledgeble in installing and fabing stuff than him. He just said it was a fun time to go and learn the material for MECP.

Basically point of my post... I see alot of kids coming straight out of high school going to one of these schools instead of college... then ****ing themself over thinking they will work at some sweet shop(not saying any of you are these people...). And I find it dumb. So no offense to anyone.

Dude you are completley right. I went to one of these schools, and yeah they are great for hands on fabrication, like fiberglass, vinal, etc... but when it comes to really being an installer they are not that great IMO.
Think about it, the whole thing to installing is knowing how to take apart vehicles. Every car is different so it is impossible to teach these skills at a school. I work at Circuit City now installing and I pretty much use nothing I learned at school while on the job.

I am glad I went merely for the experience, friends I met, and the hands on skills. If you are someone with a lot of money, then IMO do it. On the other hand if you are pressed for cash it may not be worth it because these schools are VERY expensive when you compare the cost to how much you really get out of it. Just my 2 cents.

yeah this is why I'm not going.... spend all that money on a class, and you get a job at CC installing..... you need to get a bitCCC h job at a local installing place, and work your way up. They will most likely show you most everything you need to know, and will probably pay for your testing/schooling if they want you there.

Also, the main thing these schools do is prepare you for the MECP. That is like your final exam so to speak. Let me tell you this. The MECP means nothing. Anyone with a basic 12v backround could pass the test. These people could have never touched a car in their life. It by no means qualifies you as a "professional" installer.

Don't get me wrong. I loved going to the school mainly because of the experience, and hands on fabrication. I met some really cool people there that I still keep in touch with even though they are in NY and I am in NC.

Bottom line is, the schools are fun, and you WILL learn some great stuff, but this stuff by no means automaticly makes you a professional grade A installer. The ONLY thing that would qualify you as that, is experience.

yeah its in san deigo i think its called the snake pit or somthin like that. All i know is its ****in EXPENSIVE

Yea you are right. It is called The Snake Pit. Website: http://directedsnakepit.com/

They are owned by DEI (viper, orion, etc.) which is why i think its expensive. in the same time i think they offer more and better classes than what they offer in other audio schools. "Maybe" even discounts from amps and stuff. Wowowowow!
