i would not go again but i would still get my mecp adv cert anyway as that does help get you hired places and if you work at bb it gets more money

Do you think that if I bought the study guide and read it over enough I would be able to pass the mecp tesT?

Leaning towards paying $150 for cert rather than $6000 and 2 weeks of my summer gone...

get the certs and get a job apprenticing at a local small shop that will actually teach you something. pick up Loud speaker design cookbook and read the hell out of it. Just seach for all of the technical information that you can find and just soak it all up. And you will be just fine

Any perticular books you have in mind that you would recommend?

I like the sounds of this route much better..

the mecp basic study guide can be had pretty cheap. covers the basics. the one hes reffering to is called 'loudspeaker design cookbook' by van dickenson. im still yet to pick a copy up.

also again hands on is the best way to learn , learning hands on in school can teach u the right way or the wrong way on any given installation also if u do want to go to school check around and see which is is the best for u .

I teach in mobile tech training and most of my students turn out great with good potential

to make decent money. I have owned my own store for 7 years so i know what i use to look for in new installers.

Hey man, I was in the same boat as you 7-8 months ago. I was going to go to school but wasn't sure if it would be worth it, etc. I ended up sayin **** school, enrolled in community college, and work as an installer at best buy on the side. Best buy payed for my MECP certification and I haven't really looked back since.

As everyone else has said, theory and knowledge is good, but hands on experience is more essential.

i went to the tempe campus. great school. great guys. i worked installing electronics in emergency vehicles afterwards for a place in phoenix. diamond was trying pretty hard to hire me, but i was already back in california. and now with the economy, getting a decent job in a market that is a considered a luxury and a toy is going to be very difficult. i would hold off and go to your local community college if you are unsure what to do. i have to finish up my AA, and i really wish i did rather than attend MD. it was a great experience that i wouldnt take back for anything, but it really hasnt done much for me. btw, 98% on basic mecp, 99% on adv.
