car audio school 101.

o.k. everybody sit down and open your books to page 1.....

*ACOUSTIC EDGE INSTITUTE*(HOUSTON,TEXAS) review

first, you don't need to spend over $10,000 to learn about car audio. you wanna learn? go to car audio forums and ask questions. most shops could care less if your M.E.C.P. certified. also, a good car audio shop will not hire someone straight out of any car audio school. go be a grunt and work your way up. coming to this school was a horrible idea. for one, their money hugary. they charge for every little thing. if you don't buy a car alarm from them to install in your own car you only learn the ver basics on car alarms. for a whole week at this school, i didn't do anything while the other students(that were stupid enough to buy an alarm from the school) got to install alarms. the owners of this school are total crooks. when you call the school about the program they lie their TAIL off to get you there. i could go on and on about this but i don't have the time. oh, one more thing. when i called before i agreed to get a loan for this sorry school i asked what tools i'd need to participate in class- they said " you don't need any tools, we have everything here". when i get there, the first thing they pass out to the class is a " tool requirement" for sale sheet. w.t.f.!!! they tell us that the tools are being sold "at cost". total freaken lie. i bought a TPI digital multy meter from them for $399.99. 2 days later i looked online and found the same dmm for $279.99 with a 3 year warranty and free shipping. this school is a total joke. in my class of 12 students, 4 quit and went home. DO NOT GO TO ACOUSTIC EDGE INSTITUTE!!!!!

Pros: BECOME M.E.C.P. CERTIFIED(all info crammed in within one week,take test)

Cons: TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY

I think my career is going just fine. I went to Acoustic Edge and really enjoyed it. It did change a whole lot after I left and seems as if it has gone to sh!t. I learned a bunch there and haven't really learned too much more of the technical side of things since I've gotten out of school besides working in a shop environment and ways to install.

never looked at the mecp testing process, but if their certs are like most tech industry certs...they look good to some clueless management and customers, but most real knowledgeable people realize they are worthless. Anybody can garbage in, garbage out an exam.

It does add more resume flash though, for that it is kind of worth the trouble.

I do it all day so at the end of the day I don't want to mess with it. During the weekend I usually do side work or want to relax. Also if I want to listen to some loud music that sounds good I just listen to my brothers system that I did.

you sure can... you don't need to go to school to take the m.e.c.p. test. this school in particular was a total joke. out of 12 students only 4 graduated. they all said screw this and went home. lost their money too. what got me was there was only 1 person other than me in my class that actually installed their own stuff. were talking about total newbs. didn't even know what a crossover was.

i'll tell you how sorry this school is... my last course was a multimedia class(home audio) and my instructor quit, going into the second week. each course cost $4000 and is 1 month long. we didn't have an instructor to teach the class that was qualified. i asked to be reimbursed for half of the tuition of that class and the school refused and wouldn't give me my certificates for all the other classes that i successfully completed. this school is 100 % pure garbage. i'll see them in court very soon!!!!

nah... that was another kid in my class. he beat Jhon's ***. tore his smartass mouth up. John cried like a b!tch and pressed charges.

running that smart mouth. john told everybody that "buddy" was a mamma's boy. he totally flipped out. he walked right up to John and slapped him like a bitc h. John sat there for a second and didn't do anything. he finally tried to defend himself after the 3rd slap. John swings like a girl throwing a softball.... like a bitc h!
