Car audio Myths for noobs!

Best myth whenever talking CA to someone who doesn't really know what they're talking about:

JL Audio is the best brand.

Alpine is the best brand.

Rockford Fosagte is the best brand.

Audiobahn is the best brand.

Clarion is the best brand.

etc, etc, etc.

(I own 2 of those brand's products, BTW)

Why would it be included as a myth if it were? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

o.k so: ported box will have as much tight bass as a sealed box?? i've been confused about this for a while. i have a bandpass box (known as a deathbox) right now with a 10" type r in it and it sounds really good for the kind of music i listen to (ska/punk) i always thought that ported was more boomy and didn't give tight bass. i want to get another 10" type r in the same designed box but i don't know if i should sell the one i have and get 2 12" type r's in a ported box if it's going to give me tight bass. urgh i'm confused again:crap:

That all comes down to enclosure and tweaking, a poorly designed box can do a number of detramental things to your sound. It is true however that ported boxes can offer more output. Well designed ported boxes can do it and achieve just as good SQ. With a good box you bass can sound as boomy or tight as you choose.

Tuning very low in the sub's passband (28-30Hz) gives you the output benefits of a ported enclosure while keeping the frequency response somewhat reasonable. You won't get as much output as a box tuned higher, but it'll sound a heck of a lot more natural and have less low frequency rolloff...
