car audio competition questions

Hey guys I'm some what of a newbie at indepth car audio and ive become really interested in car comps in particular SQ competitions for an all around car system the equipement I currently have are 1 pair of infinity kappa 62.9is 1 pair of infinity kappa 63.9i 1 pair of infinity kappa 693.9i a pair of hertz tweeters (not sure model they r like the 40 watt rms ones) I have the kenwood ddx 470 head unit kicker either 600.1 or 500.1 excellon amp mtx thunder 4 channel amp and 2 hertz deci 300.1 subs in a "bomb box" I plan on dumping the decis for 2 12inch hx 300.5 hertz and getting a new amp for those hooking the 693.3s to the kicker mono or getting a new 2 channel and running the rest to the thunder. Equipement wise am I on the right track? The hx 300.5 would go in a superbass probox as ive been told the specs are **** near equal on them the 62.9s would go up front with the hertz tweeters and the 63.9s go in the back doors and im having holes cut behind the back seats by the top tail light for the 693.9is and getting new alternator wires to support the 1600+ rms wats id have. Would that put me in the ball park of winning a sq competition with good equlizer settings and such. And tips? Pls anything is help full thanks for your time!!!

Put the subs in a proper customized ported or T-Line enclosure, you'll never win anything with pre-made cookie cutter boxes. Invest in a Digital Sound Processor like a JBL ms8 or an audison Bit Ten and tune/dial it up properly, Then you'll have a much better shot.

Remember, sounding clear does not = sounding good.

Sounding good does not = sounding great

sounding great does not =

First you must ask yourself "what is sound quality?"

Seriously though, do some research. Look up all that sq competitions judge on.

The biggest factors that affect recreating the music in front of you laid out so that it sounds like its actually happening in front of you with it so perfect that you can tell where each instrument is in height, depth, and width all around you. Music should extend outside the car.

The number of speakers, angle to your ears, position in the car, quality of all equipment including wires and rcas, proper sound processing settings such as Time Alignment, active xovers, decent equalizer, soooo many factors...

SQ is WAY more expensive than being loud. SQ competitions raise the bar on what sound quality is even further. It's no longer subjective, it becomes graded on many aspects.

So would I be better off getting way better focal mids no coax just componet for only the front doors and just keep the hertz tweeters and get the hx 300.5s? This is after is get the digi processor

Best way to get into SQ comp is to go ahead and enter , the judges will help you understand what SQ comp is all about and you will gain a better understanding of what they are looking for, and get the score sheet and whatever organization's SQ disc that will walk you through the different areas and train you ears on what to listen for.

The best piece of advice I can give you is keep it as simple as possible @ first, run a single set of comps up front and maybe a single subwoofer and quality amplifiers and maybe a simple to use processer or 80prs that you can work with TA and EQ tuning

In addition to entering a competition and hopefully getting some great feedback, you may be able to meet up with locals who have competition history and listen to their vehicles. You have to have some goals to acheieve. Sound quality competition is not about your preferences.
