Well given I just spent $600 on a repair and got nothing but smoke, um yea it looks bad, because just one part being bad puts my investment in the toilet. Beyond that you can't see all the surface mount components that are burnt in that same area. I would actually feel much better about it if we had screwed up and connected it backwards or while playing to voltage dropped or a coil on a sub went south, and it blew. At this point I don't know even if we track down every little part that blew, if I invest to put it back together, will it do the same thing? We jsut don't know what the hell happened.i seen it. it doesnt look bad at all. a few transistor cooked. coulda been weak parts.
Well I will only say this Zach seems to have a good heart, but unfortunately he is completely unable to take care of an issue should it arise as it relates to the repair he has done.
Because of my experiance I unfortunately cannot give my recommendation to Zach.
1st Zach assured me in the beginning prior to even receiving the amp that if it was unrepairable he would refund my money. He assesed the amp when he recieved it and even modified the repair plan during the process, for which I paid in full for all parts and what he asked for as labor. He set the numbers not me. I recieved the amp in great condition, as I said previously I think his work looks great. However one of the fet hold downs (there are 2 different types) was put in the wrong location causing the hold down to touch the energised power rail and frying the realative power supply section. Zach stated he knows it was the wrong one but made sure it wasn't touching, and the shift must have happened during shipping, my stance is the double boxing looked great, there was no damage to the amp or the plexiglass inside the boxes, given the static position of the hold down it must have been installed inproperly for it to have been able to "shift" or it simply was put to close and didn't shift. No matter what the deal, it isn't my fault, and I sincerely don't believe it is a shipping issue.Kmanian, All do respect he did exactly what you paid for him to do. You gave him a busted up amp a DAT amp none the less, that have a very high failure rate and most of those Hellfires are unrepairable I have seen several of those going around blown and not one person seems to have success repairing them. From reading this thread the amp you sent him to repair was abused to hell and back and you knew this sending it in that there was a chance that it might not work.
You took a gamble with that amplifier and Zack repairing it who even said he was just starting out doing repairs, What do you want him to do give your 600.00 bucks back? Does he not deserve to be paid for the work he has done thus so far? From Zacks videos he seems to have taken the time and really dive into that DAT amplifier .
Just curious has he stopped all communication with you?
