Car amp for home..

What is the rest of your system? And how much do you want to spend?
Uhm, For the amp less then $300 if possible. And the set up.. I have a pre-fab 5.1 right now, KLH speakers with a sony reciever. I will probabbly buy a Yamaha 5.1 reciever and build my front speakers and keep my current front KLH speakers for the rear.

Ground up stuff right here.... And i realize the subs that I choose are going to be rediculously loud, one 12" Q or something like that will probabbly what i end up going with.

It all depends on the power at hand....

Well... You really don't need all that much power. You could get one of those Buttkickers or a plate amp. I am not sure if the buttkicker has any crossover controls with it, nor have I had any practical experience with one. Really, all you would need is 500 watts and a decent sub. Don't go too over kill on it or you neighbors will just hate you.

Yea.. I have neighbors, but I live on 3 1/2 acres and everyone around me has more then that, sooo I am not too worried about pissing them off.

B&W EE, I would love to pick your brain via IM. You seem to have oodles of knowledge in the home audio field...

& balls to the walls, your screen name must fit you nicely then....

Are the buttkickers going to sound good though? It sounds like they are designed for the 'shakers'.
People have been using them to drive subs even though it was made for shakers.

A recent review of three amps;

Crown XLS 402b

Behringer EP2500

Buttkicker BKA1000

The majority of amps don't even meet their power spec @ 20hz, low distortion,

even proamps suffer pretty bad. The reason you want a 2kw amp is to get a true 1kw operation.

Most people buying amps to drive subs are mislead about the true power vs. published specs.
