these threads get me so excited to see these experts get called idiots and then intern make the name caller cry like a baby. I love it. I would almost argue with them for shits and grins. yea, so maybe not. good to see zane and jlaine back on here, as well as alaxan even if it is to argue. peace

Do yourself a favor and base things off your own experience, not what you hear elsewhere. That way you know that beyond a doubt, you are correct because you've seen it with your own eyes.

Find a friend with a dead cap, and cut that puppy open - you'll find exactly what's been stated already by me. (unless it is VERY old and the electrolyte has dried up) If I had a damaged one here right now, I'd do it and take photos to prove a point. Had this discussion happened about 2 weeks ago I'd have had one, but that unit is in the garbage now.

I may try to dig one up from work here next week and do this for everyone.

Dont I get any credit for this to?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif After all it was me that brought up the fact that they had liquid in them and even went as far as to say it wasnt even really it was a fluid but said instead that it was a gel. Oh well if I dont get credit im not to worried about it anyway, you by far surpass my knowledge and im not going to argue with you about something that I dont know even about 1/4 of what you know about it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

LOL...well i know for a fact, that this guy has worked on my car and had me doin 152's with 2 single-coil 10"'s. He is very well respected in these parts. But i see there is alot of HATERS here who don't know how to use an "IGNORE" button in a message forum so, I don't think i'll be coming back here anymore. Mainly because you Fukkin A$$holes don't let people share their own beliefs and opinions.

- - - oh, by the way, Learn how to use your ignor button.

The current debate isn't open for opinion.. Caps either have liquidish/gel stuff in them, or they are dry.. One says one thing, the other the other.. but, only one is right (unless someone can find examples of both //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ).. no opinion involved.. I've not seen anyone get bashed by the top dogs on this forum for speaking their opinions.. They may offer reasons why that opinion might have flaws and/or offer different opinions, but not bash (or HATE, as you so put it).. Others here do that, but I don't consider them to be 'top dogs'.. Jlane, from what little I've seen on this forum, is one of those top dogs.. ftgu seems pretty knowledgeable about a lot of things as well, but he does tend to be pretty negative of other's opinions, and HE is the one who started being a dick on this thread, started with the bad-mouthing and name calling.. not a very 'professional' way to act..

*shrug* I'm not getting into this debate.. I think there is a fine line between a paste in some models that might turn to goo when a cap blows, and other models have goo to start with.. As I don't know cause I've never seen the inside of a cap, good or blown, I have nothing to say.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Caps have both (gel and dry), but car audio ones (the ones we are having this discussion about) have the electrolyte or they'd never hit the capacitance rating they are at without being drastically larger than they are now.

Some don't use an electrolyte, they don't because they are of a very small capacitance, and don't need it. The solution aids capacitance, and increases it dramatically.

I'd say ignore audionutz (shame that he registered that name and tarnished the name of a good competitor with his ranting), and do the research yourself. You'll see what I'm getting at.

OK well sorry this is a little bit later here, but I figure what the hell.....First.... I will give my credential on it. I have a degree in advanced electronics and have worked in-shop electronics on some of the most complex equipment in the world while in the Air Force. I have been in the car audio industry for about 10years now and have been a certified installer since the age of 17. Just as Josh has stated I will state once more.....the caps that we are discussing in a car audio environment are all filled with a form of liquid or gel or even paste. Without this as already stated the cap would be MUCH larger and not so effective in a car audio application. FTGU....the cap you have cut up and in half in your shop....was it sent to you that way or did you cut it? Because I have seen demo caps split in half and shown dry....of course they are not going to send it to you soaked in a liquid dripping all over the place. If not....and it is a cap you cut in half to demo yourself.....get out of the micro-farad range and rip open a cap you would install in a vehicle. NOT on a small pc or wafer board. A small range cap will not typically have a liquid in it, even tho some do it is typically just a paste. Face it FTGU....you were wrong. It takes a bigger person to stand up and say that wrather than try to ***** and argue that their point is correct even when shown and proven to be wrong.
