capacitor farad question

Seriously though, if you have to spend money on one, why go so big? I mean, you could spend half the money on a 2F cap and be plenty covered. And you're not wasting so much money. It does the exact same thing as a rolling pin, and they're $50 cheaper.

Capacitors are used A LOT in most all applications of electricity, someone somewhere decieded that "cars use electricity, so they could benifit from a capacitor" however they failed to realize that capacitors are most effective when used in alternating current or in transient response circuits....your power wire to your amp should be neither of these in stable conditions

The setup I have is a cadence dca1600 mono amp at 1 ohm going to a skar vvx12 dc2 in a ported box. It's my first install so I'm really just trying to understand everything a little better.

I play guitar and am a real gear head in that area so I was kind Of under the impression that a capacitor is the same thing as a power conditioner used in rack equipment. And in that case power conditioners do usually make a difference.

My biggest concern was that if I got the 5 farad cap would it show up as uneven or overpowering in my setup. I would guess since its 5 farads maybe it would run a little more stable and do a little bit better of a job

The only thing more farads mean, is a bigger "boom" if it blows up. If you are using it for looks or to try to siphon out some electrical noise, the smaller the better. Less strain on your electrical.

It's not a power conditioner... So no, it won't do that. And you said your electrical is fine, so you obviously don't need it for that, not that it would do anything.

But if you just want it for looks... or to impress noobs and for us to laugh at you, just got with the smallest, cheapest one... it won't make any difference since it won't do anything.

IF you're into high-level SQ competitions and have thousands of dollars invested, there may be a rare case that you could use a capacitor as it was intended for, and that would be to filter noise.

Well I wouldn't mind making you guys laugh a bit lol. So I kind of still want one just because I can get it installed for like $100 which isn't a real big deal. But now I'm just wondering which ones actually do what their supposed to do and which ones are less desireable.

I'm going to just guess stinger or Rockford are brands to look at.

Keep on mind I'm not going against any facts here I am just curious and want to explore this as much as I can since this is all new to me. So for me to get it and try it and than find out it did nothing is worth the $100 to me. This is all just a learning thing for me

I don't have anymore headlight dimming. There are no more loss of rpm's either. No electrical issues at all so it's not like I'm getting it to fix and problems. I just want one
Is getting a bigger 5 farad cap going to put a strain on anything or is just adding a 2 farad good enough. I can get either 2 or 5 farads of the same brand for the same exact price.
If you don't need it, why spend the money? Using a capacitor will just lower the input voltage your amplifier sees, which means less power output.

OP, give me that $100, and I'll be able to send magic your way to make your system sound better. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Haters ITT

Capacitors obviously makes da deebeez. Everyone in his thread is Jello they can't afford one of those good ol Boss caps.

Before my capacitor I was hitting like 184 db, after the capacitor I'm hitting atleast 213db... at the front bumper with ZERO dimming and only on 16 gauge power wire
