Can't decide between two amps

Hey guys, first post here.

The amp will be powering a JL 10w7 or a 12w6v2 (haven't decided on that yet either lol) but my two choices are a JL 500/1 or a PG X600.1. I can get a the X600.1 for about $250 shipped brand new and the 500/1 is about $230 to $250 used. I could shell out for a new 500/1 ($330~) too if I cannot locate a used one.

About the subwoofers I am leaning towards the 10w7 but it's not a final decision yet. I have had the 500/1 and 12w6v2 in my car before so I thought I would try something different.

Which one would you recommend? Thanks.

JL is a better amp with a much better damping factor, this will give you a more controled sound.

But there nothing wrong with the PG for bass, just a little lose sounding when compared to the JL.

If your only talking $100. difference? I'd get the JL.

This would be a better amp : http://cgi.ebay.com/CROSSFIRE-XP1400D-Mono-Amp-1400-Watts-RMS-No-RES_W0QQitemZ140154300589QQihZ004QQcategoryZ64570QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Or better SQ with this one : http://cgi.ebay.com/CROSSFIRE-VR-401_W0QQitemZ220144371077QQihZ012QQcategoryZ64570QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Damping factor is horrendously overrated as a specification of importance and for just about anything other than a tube amp can be ignored. Very, very few solid state amps have a low enough damping factor to be an issue (only one comes to mind off hand).

They are both good amps.....just different.

In the JL's favor is selectable 12db & 24db/oct crossover slopes, if you plan to use the amplifier's internal xovers this is a nice feature to have.

The JL has a regulated power supply......I seem to recall the PG having an unregulated power supply.

The JL isn't overly efficient for a class D design. I don't know the efficiency of the PG off hand, but if efficiency is something tremendously important to you this may be something to consider.

i second the dampening factor beinga way overrated spec and doesnt really need to be considered when looking at any decent amp.

wouldnt the kicker 400.1 work pretty good for those subs? they usually bench closer to 500wrms. personally id get the w6 with the watts you are going to be pushing it with. the w7 isnt much of an upgrade, worse sq but a little more spl.

i have had a few of the xenon amps including the x600.1 and they are great amps. they do plenty more than rated power, very good sounding power and the amps are made to take a beating with out shutting off. the Xenon goes down to a 1 ohm load while the jl only goes down to a 1.5

i would go with the xenon.

Not true. but he has more post, so he must be right:*******:
Completely true.

And it has nothing to do with post count.

Okay another quick question, 10w7 or TC LMS4000?
Both are good drivers.

IIRC the LMS4000 is similar to the Eclipse LMT based driver.....which npdang on another forum measured on a Klippel to have nearly 40mm Xmax. So peak output should be in favor of the TC.

On the down side.....the LMT drivers are very inefficient (not a huge deal for a sub...but something noteworthy) and also require very large enclosures....significantly larger than the W7.

It's about trade offs and which you set of tradeoffs you would be willing to accept.

Yeah, he's the post bully //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/ohsnap.gif.17c4c91be09a7a4a3995fb7145adac39.gif

experience has a number and he's got plenty.

I would go with the 10W7 ported. Aside from what you've been told already, your vehicle's acoustics play a very important role. I had 2 10w6v2 and I wanted something different so I got myself a 13W7 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. I tend to enjoy the lows. The W6v2 is an awesome sounding speaker, but the W7s go lower and louder and thats what I want. I'll leave it to my K2ps to handle the mids. So what kinda car is this going in?

PS: And like squeak mentioned the 500/1 has awesome xover features. The PG is a good amp, but I'll take the JL.

The car is a BMW '06 325i (e90). I thought I had my mind made up but there are so many different choices out there. The 500/1 and 12w6v2 I had before belonged to a friend of mine and he's going to put it into his new evo. Thank you for all your input so far guys I will do some more digging to see what really suits me best, I am more of a sq guy though.

10w7 Ported? I understand ported enclosures get louder, but the subs he picked are both SQ subs. A sealed enclosure would seem like it would be a better and much easier choice. Unless you not looking for SQ but then you probably wouldn't be deciding between those 2 drivers.
