can you blow your amp from to small power wire

someone told me that if your amp power wire is to small and you are pushing to high of watts then your amp will blow..

i dont belive this. what causes an amp to blow.

i have never heard of an amp blowing just from running normal without all the gains and shit cranked up

if your wire is to small, it will not be able to supply the current needed for the amp to opperate sufficiently, and you could melt your wire.

seems to me if your wire's too small the chances of damaging your amp would decrease.

only true to a certain limits but majority i would say otherwise due to user error.

Too much current flowing threw too small of a wire will cause the wire to get extremely hot and melt the insulation. The smaller the wire, the more resistance as well.

had same issue today. buddy came over with brand new amp hooked up power acoustik ab3000 with 8ga power. wire melted at the fuse and grounded out put amp in protect. switched wire to 2ga no more problems

8 gauge wire usually holds up to 50 amps, 4 gauge up to 80 amps usualy

absolutle correct. if you try and run a but load of current through a tiny wire it's like running a gallon of water through a drinking straw instantaniously......just doesnt work. and when you try and do that, either you're wire will melt, or you're amp will get over worked, over heated, and blow.....the amp will see a bad voltage drops and many out there (*including my mojo 4kw) will blow at low voltages for the power input side.

& 6 runs of 1/0 for a single Memphis 4k? You in a street class w/only one battery or what? They can run from 1 run of 1/0, safer is 2..
