can this be fixed?

What do you mean when you say they can take 1k.. Because if you mean 1k based off of tuning the amp via DMM at a -3db 50hz tone then yea they can take it because on regular music they see at most 600w rms. But if it is tuned to 1k TRUELY then there is no chance it will survive daily.

your problem there is using a -3db test tone, use a 0db test tone. i did it with a 50hz test tone at 0db for a dd1508 on 1k and it survived just fine with very hard daily use.

 
That proves my point even more then.

if you use a 0db test tone then you are around 6db away from standard music, which means that 1000w you supposidly run, now just turned into 400w at best.

using the -3db tone gets you tuned closer to what the music is recorded at.

Don't say a sub can take 1000w if you are giving it 400, it really cant handle 1000w.
