can sealed be louder?

So i was looking at ROE's great 12 challenge average spl sealed and average spl ported. My question is, is it possible to have a sealed enclosure hit more dbs than a ported enclosure? (same woofer and watts). Also i was wondering an explination for this.. Fi q 1000w 2.2cu. ported hit 126.83 and the kicker cvx 1.5cu.ft sealed 50w hit 126.43.

Where are you getting your information from? 50w seems way too little to power those...

Are those numbers for trunk applications?

Sealed enclosures are less efficient than pretty much any other type of enclosure - if you're going for max SPL, I wouldn't recommend them.

^^x2, was the TL a mile away from the Q? I would think an Fi Q off 1000 watts in 2.2cu ported would hit 136-138, a 126? Eh.. sounds bs. I believe your statement about that CVX off 50w.

get a sub with a lot of xmax because with a sealed enclosure xmax = SPL. Also get A LOT of power.

Around 75% of your sound of your sub is due to how u design & the build quality of your sub enclosure.

Well I can't imagine a seled box being louder than a poted box as long as u r using the same driver & power. Most of the time the ported box is going to be larger than the sealed, remember we r using the same driver.Also the larger box u have the lower the tone of bass you will get. But the bigger box will start to loose out on the crispness that u will get with the smaller sealed, hince the sound quality the sealed box gives u! A Sealed box will give u tight,accurate bass & sealed boxs have a flat frequency response curve.

A ported box will create louder bass than a sealed enclosure, and they allow u to tune the box to a specific frequency to determine how the bass will sound. Higher tuning on a ported box will be louder BUT u will loose sound quality! Lower tuning will still get louder than a sealed box BUT u will have better sound quality than a higher tunned box! Most of the time when using a ported box the "BOOM" is the ultimate goal! So my point is this- if you want loud bass & u don't care all that much about Sound Quality a ported box that is tuned high with a large amount of port area is the way to go to get more SPL! Ya see the tuning of the ported box has a-lot to due with how loud the box is going to be!
