Can I hook up only 1 voice coil from a dual voice coil sub?

The sub is a sa12 dual 4.....i can only use 1 channe of a 4 ohm stable amp?

It will only be getting 125 watts.

 
its not bad for the sub, per se, but it will half your sub's power handling, as other's have stated. also, the Qts of the driver will change, resulting in a peakier response near the driver's resonant frequency. you can short the other coil to counteract that peakiness. honestly, though, with the exception of some specialized applications, there's no good reason to drive only one voice coil. you're essentially limiting the sub's performance capabilities by half.
