Can amps...

ruin speakers if all the settings are correct. I mean, is it possible to have an amplifier that works although it makes the speakers sound scratchy and permanently screws up the voicecoil. I have my very first amp I ever bought still and I have ran 3 setups of subs, and 2 set ups of speakers off of it. The first sub sounded great. The second sub and third subs (eclipse/kicker) sounded horrid because of a scratchy-rub noise that they produced. The first set of lightning audio speakers sounded good at first but now when I push on the cone it is not a smooth motion and scratchy noises come out of them (don't realy care, they were shitty walmart speakers). I recently learned how to set the gains with a multi meter instead of by ear so I am more confident in my gains. Now I have some pioneer speakers being run off of the amp and I can hear a hint of this dreaded scratchy noise.

I just bought some 5.25 kick titaniums and I want to hook them up to this amp (blaupunkt pca) but I am afraid they will suffer the same fate as the rest of my equipment. The HU is also brand new and the rca has a length of 3 feet from the HU to the amp. Do you guys think this could be a faulty amp that ruins speakers or do you recommend that I hook the speakers up?

Thanks guys.

clipping will especially with any speaker, and clippin sounds like shit so when you hear it back off the volume, you shoudl find out what volume your head unit clips at, mine clips at volume 25 of 30 and i back it off to volume 24 and i go no higher then volume 24 cuz it will be clipping if i do and i can hear the amp struggling with the signal beggin for mercy sometimes then i back it off and it plays accurate as shit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif, i[m guessing your volume is in the clipping range and that's why your speakers are shitting out on you. also you want to set yoru gains on FLAT //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. hope this helps ya. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanx guys for the help. I should have stated before that I never go past 28/40 volume. Although I think I did not have the crossover on the amp set to flat. I will do that. Plus the crossovers for my components should help with the problem of having too much bass come out of the speakers am I right?

no, most component crossovers (if any) dont have a high pass for the mid speaker, you will need to use the one on your amp. set it to around 80hz or so and just play around with it till you find what you like.
