I was going to run flash sticks on my system I am building in the spring. I was in wally world the other day looking at them then found usb ran hard drives. And I was thinking what would keep the head unit from running that. The only think I can think of is software conflicts (not sure how it works to be honest .. my programming is a little rusty) So again will the head units support hard drives and if so which brands and models (looking for something inexpensive out of the brand names) And how would I set the hard drive up for this

if it supprts usb technology then it would most def. work. i was wanting to get a portable hard drive for my avic-d3. but the avic-d3 doesnt support usb technology. so i had to buy an ipod to do the same thing. but i would def. look into the portable hard drives.

btw all usb ports are 5.7volts.

usually external hardrives either require an ac adapter(30-40$)

or 2 usb ports. a usb hub would put too much strain on th usb port cause look at it this way.

if you have one usb port that is 5.7v then u add a hub that has 4 ports. that means each port is still getting 5.7 v but it will then draw too much power and possibly burnout the port

that is why most external hdd say you should use 2 different usb ports.

just my 2 sense.

in other words. your better off just buying a 4 or 8 gb flash drive.

lol, and yet, none of that actually made any sense!

firstly, USB ports are 5 volts... and the rest of that post? well, I'll just let it go //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you obviously have no idea what i said. and i put sense to be different i know it is really cents.
they are not 5 volts. they are between 5.5 an 5.7
no.. they're 5 volts...

please, do some research, then come back and wipe up the dribble you left behind before //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've got a SimpleTech 160GB portable drive running off of my JVC AVX33... no problems whatsoever.

The SimpleTech drive came formatted as NTFS, so it had to be reformatted FAT32 before the HU would read it, but once I did that, worked great!
