Can a sealed enclosure be powered to be just as loud as a ported one?

From what I've read, PR's shouldn't be placed vertically. Suspension doesn't like sitting that way and could get stretched out.
Good advice. I will check into that. Looks like If I were to do this. 3 12" PRs would be my best bet.

Some subs will perform better in a ported box and some better in sealed box. The thiele small parameters are used to determine what box will get the most output for your sub.

I remember a great debate that took place twenty years ago about which (ported or sealed) would be the first to break the 180DB level in SPL competition.

The 180 db point has been passed now.

Oddly enough 180 was past with band pass enclosures //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

That is ported correct?

What do you think about the Mayhems Specs. Would it perform fine in a PR sealed set up?

You would use EBP as a guide and I will add a link for you.

You will be able to see for yourself using EBP as the guide that the numbers you gave indicate ported is your best bet.

It's not a 'loss' per se, but a flatter response.

A ported enclosure can be ~3db louder around the tuning frequency, but begins to unload below tuning. The further you go above tuning - the more the enclosure acts like a sealed box (port isn't contributing as much) - so that free boost also results in a loss of bandwidth.

ok. How much loss in DB's would you guess? Most 2 12 set ups I have seen on 5k do about 147. Any guess what a sealed or PR set up would lose in volume? Its not my concern. But I am curious.

Good one! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Also of note if you put a sub in a sealed box then place it in a car windows up or down doesn’t mater you have created a band pass system.

Exactly why I am looking to try a PR set up.

A PR box is technically a ported enclosure, not sealed.
So. You don't see a problem with my subs being recommended for only ported enclosures? Since a PR set up. is technically ported.
