How do I calculate the amount of watts my amp is giving to my sub?

First you have to use a clamp meter and measure the ouput current in AC of the amplifier through the speaker outputs. Also use a volt meter to measure the output AC voltage through the speaker outputs. Multiply your AC volts x AC current and you have your output power in watts.

how would you monitor clipping? It wouldn't take much to effect the current measurement.

you would also need an oscope and know what you are looking for.....
