Cable's Hd DVR

I was hooking up my HD DVR from the local cable company and noticed they have a ethernet connection on the back. Anybody know why this is on there?

Motorola DCH6416. I am normally very tech savy but when I was hooking this up I couldnt for the life of me figure this out. I thought maybe for technical hookups but all of that is done through the coax. I dont have any internet capabilities on this and any ordering of movies and what not is all through the coax.

usually those are for future upgrades, i know my directv hd/dvr had them and i could connect it to my home network and get a video on demand type of deal as well as stream music through my dvr. however, i currently have the same cable hd/dvr you are talking about and i have not seen it do anything when i connected it to my network

They are for Tech upgrades and provisioning done by your cable company's warehouse. They use that port to "talk" and program the boxes.
