CA.com resident DIY specialist..

are you kididing? get a nice component set did you not look at my sig son?
lol I guess I missed the Rainbows... my point though, was that the Alpine Pros are basically the Scanspeak mids and highs you'd be buying separately on Madisound, etc. and probably for the same money. Might help ya out in the event of a resale is all I was saying. But there are a lot of options out there for active. Why not try running your Rainbows active? Or are you doing that already...

i dont know....just bored...no im not running the rainbows active...i feel like if im gonna run active i rather re do the whole front stage....DIY seems like it has the potential to be a fun project.

i would love to do kicks....but im at school so i dont really have time or money to mod stuff up...i was looking to just drop some new stuff in....run some new RCAs and work on the tweaking.

there is also nothing wrong with taking a great set that was meant to be run passive and running it active. i don't see why you wouldn't try the set you have active first.

i think eventually i will move on from my RSD set that i am running actively but why not try what you have since you already have them?

only cause the majority of the money id get from selling my current amp and component combo would go towards a 4 channel....so if i just sell my 2 channel ill only have like $200 or less for a 4 channel.

whereas i can get upwards of almost $500 for the rainbows and use that + the amp money to piece together some stuff.

ive already begun reading stuff...lots going on over there....im heading to bed but ill read through this thread tomorrow...thanks for any suggestions guys.

when i try getting the midbass response i want out of them they dont enjoy it too thoroughly....so im looking elsewhere.
ok then, at least now you gave us a reason. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i know all the rainbow sets want ot be crossed at 80hz. can't get much bass there.

the dayton rs180's are very nice. maybe look at them, but they don't play very high so you'll need a tweeter that can play low.

even if its a lease ....you can deaden the doors...they'll never look behind the door panels...Where are you looking at for tweeter location...does the vehicle have that provision? If so is it close to the mid bass? most vehicles factory locations are really bad for proper staging and imaging....even with time alignment you still usually get poor results....

Hell, a buddy of mine that's a huge VW geek and an incredible mechanic, along with his brother who fits the same description, had a VW 337 on a lease (the 1.8T Golf with stock Recaro seats, BBS wheels, huge brakes, etc) and before they turned it in, they took a stock Golf that had the 2.0L, and swapped EVERYTHING. Interior, motor/******, brakes, wheels, I mean EVERYTHING. Even the GD power mirrors! And they turned in the lease at night, and the guy looked it over real quick and signed their inspection release form or whatever, and didn't even bother to really see that it was a 337 frame with all stock Golf parts and drivetrain, and that was that! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Moral of the story is, I'm sure a little modification won't hurt ya //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Especially deadening, etc. They'll never see that stuff...

look at the ID OEM mids that hessdawg is selling over on diyma and check out the seas neo alums from madisound for about 67.00 shipped and those ID OEMs will run you about 90.00 so you have spent less then 200.00 and have a very nice active setup... just to give you an ideal of how much money you can save and sound **** good doing it.
