CA.com Mythbusters (PG RSD v Phase plugs)

No, the output is fine. The midrange just simply was not as nice as some of the others. Im not going into detail about it. Im just laying it out there to not expect them to compete with highend sets. I like the sds alot, but lets keep this in perspective people.. I will say this for that price, I havent heard anything pasive come close..
aight! sounds good.

Not too surprising, poly cones aren't as bad as a metal would be in a two-way, but there's got to be a breakup mode there that a simple passive Xover isn't going to totally avoid...a big tweet that'd play down to 2KHz and a sharp cutoff on the woofer would probably clean up the midrange substantially...

After reading about the RSD's so much I was really thinking about getting a set...But the more and more I thought about it and reading this it made me think of something.

I'm not pointing anyone out but this made me think of it " i love my rsd's but idk if they can compete with a $500 set. i have never heard and expensive set so. they might compare but i really honestly don't know. i'll be watching.

That kid pushes RSD's like PG is paying him too..

And for the "kids at school saying what they think of the difference" Now this brings me to say this..

I know 50 people that couldn't tell the difference between a $50 set of coaxial's and $500 plus set of components installed right. As long as its "clear" as they say..

I can think of many times I sat in someones car with decent set ups and people saying...wow that sounds pretty good.. Then I hear it and think to myself...This sounds like shit!!!

I'm not trying to start anything just saying how amazing for some is not so great to others.

Watch out, the PG fanbois think they are free to call anyone who is skeptical of the PG magic a "douche." According to them, unless you have heard (which translates roughly into bought) the RSD's you have no right to question their greatness.

That's how budget boners work....

I agree w/ that actually... You shouldn't question their "greatness" if you haven't heard them... Same goes for saying that "they are the best" when it is the only set of speakers you have heard....

But if you only hear them in one install, that really isn't a fair judgement either.

Yeah, but seriously? That's usually the case for everyone... You hear the install that you did.. Unless you have friends that are into this stuff, you have most likely only heard your own install...

Right...but the problem with these "reviews" is the inability of the reviewer to:

a) distinguish characteristics that are a function of install

b) compare these two a variety of speakers

c) the ability to articulate exactly what makes the speakers perform at a higher level.

I think one needs more than "They are $90 and sound good".

I agree with any part of your statement that agrees with my statement. However, to the extent that you disagree with my statement, I disagree with yours.

I hope that helps.

I have not heard those model PG components but I have hear other PG line ups, as well as many other components in that price range. and they all sound about average. compared to the higher end comps iv install.

Iv installed the OPs system. iirc he wanted to have his front stage sound like mine. and im running a heavy Dynaudio active system. I have near perfect blended sub setup in back. the OP I belive has a bass heavy sub setup, he is running his Rainbows passive. he could be running active and the sound can improve. I just wish I had more time and tools when I was installing

buying a cheap component system that is made to run passive is NOT going to help improve his midbass or anything in his situation

Ah, I see what you mean... I hope that "dvr" does do a review based on a variety of listeners... I'm not sure it's going to happen..

A bit OT, but what do you mean by "heavy" Dynaudio system?
