BX1000D/4v Alpine users...

I'm running a Magnum D2 (not claw basket if it matters) in a 2 cu. ft. box tuned to 30hz. My Hifonics bx1000d is wired for 1 ohm. My head unit is an Alpine 9835. I won't have access to a volt meter or DMM for a while, so where do you guys have your gains [properly] set to? I only have it about a quarter of the way up from the 9v marking.

I suggest turning ur HU up as high as u will ever play it, then start turning ur gains up till ur happy.....if it distorts, turn it down. Thats a safe bet if u dont have a voltmeter

Well, since the marks on the hifonics go from 9v to .2(or something like that), then a safe bet would be at about the half-way mark. think of that knob as going from 0-9, so half-way would be 4.5 volts.

4.5 volts is under your headunit rating, so you won't clip the amp.

That's where i set my bx1500d at and i had no problems.

i notice voltage ratings that are actually printed next to the dial arent very conservative

as in they make your sh!t loud as hell at low volumes

If your Alpine is like mine, remember that the bass level needs to be at 15 to get the full preouts, at 0 bass level it's like completely muting the bass (almost)

I have to have my gain up very high on this setup as well. The HU tops at 35 and I have it where my mid and highs peak around 27 or 28 and I have to have the gain all the way up for the Hifonics amp and my sub to peak around 27 or 28. The JL 500/1 is what I had before and I had the gain up less than half way. The Hifonics is running @ 2 ohm right now and never gets hot with the gain all the way up....oh well.

definitely should NOT have the gains all the way up, unless your headunit has a .2 volt preout.
