just checked ebay and airbags arent cheap. saw ones on ebay from $300-$1200 so just imagine how much they are from a dealer...... he didnt get rich overnight by selling 1 or 2. the guy operated this business for years.Hard to sell $40MM in airbags...I didn't know it was that big of a market...
Maybe in gay NE states where they check the structural integrity of the car during inspection. In TN, there can be a fucking hole there and there is no issue.
i dont know about any law that reads that way not that there isnt one though.if you lived in a state where you had to you would...... not sure that such laws exist but probably
I wouldn't live in a state with such stupid laws.if you lived in a state where you had to you would...... not sure that such laws exist but probably
hmmm...may ask my insurance company. I unhooked mine.i dont know about any law that reads that way not that there isnt one though.the problem you would run into would be
1. a car dealer can not sell a vehicle with deployed airbags off the lot without fixing them.
2. insurance companies would go ape shit if you got in a wreck and they found out there wasnt any. they wouldnt pay out for any injuries.
they wont care if you unhook it really but if you are in a wreck and get hurt they will refuse payments for medical or whateverhmmm...may ask my insurance company. I unhooked mine.
you raised an interesting point. how is this lot selling this car without airbags? my girlfriend sold cars for a little while and anything that was geared toward safety on the vehicle had to be in working order. even if the stickers that are on the visor that warn of the airbags and what not were peeled off they had to be replaced.i dont know about any law that reads that way not that there isnt one though.the problem you would run into would be

dealerships can be fined a lot if they sell vehicles that do not meet D.O.T. requirements. in some cases if there is proof of mulitiple vehicles the dealership could have their license pulled and not be able to sell anymore.you raised an interesting point. how is this lot selling this car without airbags? my girlfriend sold cars for a little while and anything that was geared toward safety on the vehicle had to be in working order. even if the stickers that are on the visor that warn of the airbags and what not were peeled off they had to be replaced.
im not 100% sure about all states but if bags deploy it is required that the car be titled as salvage no matter what. i have seen cases where someones bags went off from running over a curb. after that their insurance totals the car out and must become a salavge title. even if there is no damage to the car.Car will have to be sold as Salvage, Theft Recovery in most states....unless dealership fixes airbags, then can be sold as used.... It is against Federal Law to sell a vehicle without all of its original safety equipment installed....unless it is Salvage title...(Indiana)
well that is precisely what the OP is saying is happening here.dealerships can be fined a lot if they sell vehicles that do not meet D.O.T. requirements. in some cases if there is proof of mulitiple vehicles the dealership could have their license pulled and not be able to sell anymore.
thats always an option. just tell them you will pay them wholesale price for the car. so around 1500-2000 out the doorid get a billet steering wheel and glass a screen in the passenger side //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
