Burning Smell from Woofer?

I just got my new system installed today. A JBl 1200.1 powering an RE SE XXX. I was just wondering if I am over powering the sub? I guess from what I understood what the guy told me, it was the voice coil burning up?

all new subs do it, its called outgassing (glue getting hot and emitting an odor)

i'm pretty sure the SEXXX isn't new. Might be a packing peanut up in thar.

Well thing is, it isn't new; it is used. I don't really think it is the gain.

Well it did have some styrofoam(sp?) pieces on the woofer. Could that be the smell?

Maybe the previous owner didnt ever push it hard ??

If it isnt distorting, I wouldnt worry too much about it.

RE subs are known for smelling a bit while being pushed hard. I call it the RE smell lol, you should be fine.

Well the Type R smelled like burning glue right up to the point when the sub just stopped moving.

Haha i can get it to move if i turn it all the way up but the cone is pretty much seized up.

Then she needs a recone but not worth it.

You can just get a new one for cheaper.
