Building my first ported box.. Got a ???

This will be the first time I have built a ported box and I have a quick question. I am going to be using a round port. I was planning on using a 12" port but my dumb *** just realized that the depth of the box is going to be 12". I then figured using a 10" port and it looks like it will work ok. The question is how far from the back of the box should I allow for clearance? Also, any tips on mounting the port??

i dont know about the the distance from the back it should be but have you thought about using 2 ports instead of one. Like 2 6" ports

It should be at least half the diameter of the port away from any walls, so a 10" port would require at least 5" of clearance.

Half the diameter of the port... or length of the port? Length makes sense but just clarifying it.

Ok wait....... My port is a 3" port 10" long. So it needs to be at least 1 1/2" from the back?

id make it 3 inches from the back to be honest. idk where this "Half the diameter" came from, but just get some 3 inch elbow couplers to bend the port.

then youll be good.

There is nothing wrong with the port sticking out of the box either .. external ports are fine. So, just mount it so that the clearance is there . .let the rest stay outside.
