Building a gaming computer

My mom was going to buy my brother an Alienware computer for Christmas, but she was going to buy it for $1,500, it's $100 shipping and $100 tax. Without flaming me and my family and saying how you only get $100 for Christmas, it's not common for a gift of this size... but his computer took a crap and he games in his free time.

With that said, can you guys recommend some components? I want a cool *** case for him and I want it to be reliable.

Your thoughts?

I dont know too much about building computers but looking through new-egg last year while my roommate was building his, it got real expensive, really quick for the best gear.

I am buying two eVGA 7600GT's, an AMD FX-55 processor, a couple gigs of Corsair RAM, finding a new motherboard, and just reusing my case, fans, power supply, and CD/DVD drives. I'm looking to just ramp up my old computer for like... $500. It should be good for another couple years in terms of game-ability.
