Hey!

I am new to this forum, i spend most of my time at Fullsizechevy.com, but i figure you guys would be the experts for audio stuff so i turned to here. I apologize ahead of time if i say anything that makes no sense at all.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

So i want to spend $400-$500 on a single sub for my truck. It has the factory Bose 6-CD Changer, and it just does not thud enough. I know that the sub will go under the back seat. I looked into a JL box, but they are veyr very expensive. So here is the research so far and PLEASE tell me suggestions. And when you look below..i picked the amp randomly. So please help!

Box - http://cgi.ebay.com/99-06-CHEVY-SIL...ryZ50565QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem[/URL]

Thanks guys! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

For the RL-i and TC-1000 options, you'll want an amp that puts out around 600-800w RMS at 1 or 2 ohms (1 ohm if you get DVC woofers, 2 if you get SVC woofers).

For the eDs, you'll want something that does around 400w RMS at either 1, 2, or 4 ohms (1/4 for dual-4 woofers, 2 for dual-2 woofers).

Look over those subs and do a search on them. When you have an idea of what option you want, then you can start looking at an amp.

*I would personally choose the RL-is. I will soon be installing 4 of the eDs behind the seat of my std. cab s10 though. If you haven't made a decision by the time I install, I'll give you a review.

I see where you guys are coming from with the 8's. However, i dont want two, the other side under the bench is used for something else, so it has to be a single one, and i dont care that much about comfort as long as it fits.

The reason I said the JL is because i have heard nothing but good things about them.

Now why go 10, instead of 12?

Will that box work with that JL Sub?

As far as amps go, what is compatible with what?

hey opsbear, sorry to thread dump, but by chance do you know how much room is underneath the rear seat of that extended cab? im buying a silverado in the next month or so, and am trying to figure out if i wanna slam some 10" subs under the rear seat, or if i just want to take the seat out and do 15's

you would RULE if you could give me some dimensions of underneath the seat.

I will get them up later today man....keep the suggestions coming guys

I have an 06 2500HD and started with the thought of spending very little money. Not the case.

Here is a pic of my truck with my new Tige 20v wakeboard boat.

Anyways...

I ordered a box from these guys for my 3 8" RE RE 8" subs They were only $50 apiece and sound real good for the price. http://www.subthump.com/silverado.htm

I got a Kicker zx750.1 to power them from ebay for under $200

Don't forget about RCA cables, wires, amp install kit and other misc stuff you will need.

But I would say you can keep it around $500 for the sub setup if you shop right.

You currently aren't getting good advice...

You can easily fit a 12" under your seat; however, you need to pick your 12 carefully if you only want it to take up half the space underneath. It is rather easy to get around 2 cubes under your seat, anymore takes a bit of trickery but is possible as well.

What are you using the otherside of the underneath for?

The only JL I'd run would be the w6v2 but it is a bit deep to fit under the seat at 7.6". For that you will need one of IBThumpin's seat lifts (from FSC). The cheaper JL's are a joke for what you get and the W7 is even deeper.

IMO for that reason there are a ton of better options than the JL. Hintzy hints at the eD but I wouldn't ever buy anything from the slimeball that owns eD so please stay away. For the buck you don't want a Kenwood amp either. Lots of better options out there.

THanks for the responses.

It must be a single sub set up. You guys are gonna laugh, but me and my dad share the truck. He says it is fine to get a sub, but he says he does not want it to take both sides up. I whined about it, but got no where. So one side it is.

Questions....

What will be the sound difference betweena good 10 and a good 12?

I like the single 10/12 box from these guys, what do you guys think about it -

I am completely lost in the AMP/Sub selections. I have taken the suggestions from above and i have a list going. BUT considering the space and the solo sub set up. Please make specific recomendations on the best bang for buck combo. Thanks~!

Only reasion I tried to steer him away from a 12 is because I have no idea how much space is underneath the seat in a Full size truck. But it's pretty easy to cram a couple 8s in just about any situation, and 2 8s have roughly the same cone area as a 12. If I can get 4 8s behind the seat of a st.d cab s10 while retaining full legroom, he ought to be able to get a coule under his seat. The only reason I suggested eD is because those particular woofers have a pretty good reputation from what I've heard, and they're uber cheap with the forum discount. Plus, they don't require much for power. I know the people who run eD have become pretty shady, but I don't know the specifics so. I take it you stray from eD because of a personal grievance with the owner rather than a problem with the actual products. If you could be so kind as to direct me to somewhere that would inform me about what went down with eD, it would be much appreciated.

oh, an dhow bout them dimensions lol

Dimensions of space under seat...Bear with me...

On the sides

~10" high in front, ~8 1/2" in Back, ~ 23" from the outer edge of seat to the begining of the raised middle part

In the Middle

~ 13" across from edge of raise to edge of raise, ~6" high at front, ~4.5" at back

Hope those help
