Budget Build in 2000 Honda Insight

Yeah I was looking at either a kicker or Polk, theyre both cheap and for what I want seem to fit the bill - I think my entire system can be 1000watts max power. The real limiting factor is setting the system up so it runs on less that 30 amps. The stealth boxes are sweet but a bit pricy, the rear compartment will fit the box i linked perfectly and it will be hidden if I close the lid thats over the compartment in the car now.

Update: Just traded a paintball gun for a kicker dx 500.1 so I think I'm just gonna hook my speakers up to the head unit then run either 1 ten or 2 eights in the back off it and see how that sounds. Then if necessary I'll get a small 2 chan amp for the door speakers.

The dcon might not be the best box sealed. Look for different subs. I can give you recommendations if you'd like. I know a few companies sell stealth boxes. Like JL
dcon works fine as a sealed sub man. However if he wants budget, there's other options a lot cheaper and work just as well.

With the space you have OP, you can actually do a single 10 with an aeroport or two 10s sealed with a lot of polyfill

Two of these in a 12.5" x 12.5" x 24" will be very efficient and match well with that amp you just got. It should get loud enough and sound good for your needs and sound awesome on any music genre except slowed and bass modified music with super low bass, these subs aren't gonna play below 30hz loud but normal music does not even go close to that low anyways.

Dayton Audio DCS255-4 10" Classic Subwoofer 4 Ohm

since you are on a budget, build your own box its a lot cheaper than buying one and you get home depot to make the cuts for you, all you need to do is glue and screw, then maybe borrow a neighbor/friend/relative's jigsaw and cut the subwoofer hole.

I was reading about the sound of Decons in a sealed box and people were saying it didn't sound very good

. What's your opinion on the 30 amp limit he has. He needs advice on that I'm not the one for electrical type stuff

In a sealed box on the larger side, the Dcons perform fine. They do shine a lot more in ported applications.

30 amp limit is fine, since he wont be drawing even close to his amp's current draw of power. I would however, add a small agm battery to the rear with the money he saves from the woofer choice. Something like a kinetik hc 600 or one of michaellane's batteries

That will help alleviate a lot of the power/current demand from audio gear

There's an extensive thread on it here Audio System Upgrade, the Gadget way - Page 4 - Insight Central: Honda Insight Forum

I think the max I can pull is 1000w, this guy was running an arc audio 125.4 + arc audio 500.1 at the same time and a something 900.4 before that so I think i'm within the limit as of now. Should be doable to add that battery in the rear with the money I saved on the amp. My car actually has an agm deep cycle battery under the hood instead of a normal lead acid.

nvm on the battery then, you should be fine with that, extra would just help but might not be needed

For your box design, use torres box calculator

Man I love my car, but it is so weird compared to a normal one. No alternator, agm battery just runs the electronics doesn't have to crank the engine because the hybrid battery uses the electric motor to do that. Going from 16mpg to 50 makes it worth it though.

With the money you save, I'd recommend dumping that into a nice set of components+amp. Or some sound deadening.

Not to mention your car is a hatchback, you get pretty loud even with cheapo subs in a sealed box with a hatchback.

just a warning, your 50 mpg will be more like 43-45 when this is all done. sub+amp+sound deadening puts on some weight

stinger expert roadkill builk pack for 99 dollars is some of the cheapest quality deadeners on the market atm. Mass loaded vinyl is a must too if you want to eliminate road noise. Home depot has some cheap ones for 30 dollars.

Yeah I looked into that, the guy who had the arc audio took like a 5mpg hit but I can live with that, anything over 35 and I'm happy. Plus my commute to work is 60 miles a week so even at 40-45 mpg I'd be using less than 2 gallons a week. Definitely worth a bit of a drop in mpgs to enjoy the ride more.

This is where my sub/subs will go.
oh man, thats a prime sub location haha yeah 2 10s sealed should give you some nice output. If you want something crazy, you can do a single beefy 10 ported. Either way, its gonna load off the rear hatch and have a nice horn effect going on for some free dbs.
