BTL,destroyer or ....?

So i've had my third destroyer sub for while now from being fixed and when i put it in my new box(4.0 cu ft @ 33hz) i thought at first that something was wrong with the sub, so being as impatient as i am and jumping to conclusions thinking that i was having some more bad luck with the destroyer, i bought a 15" fully loaded BTL from grneyedvl last night. I pulled the destroyer out and checked out everything and everything seemed ok, i put it back in and really listened to it with the box somewhat out of the car and found the source of the problem was the box i just made was leaking when too much pressure was being built up inside. Thats what i get for rushing the box i guess:crap: .

So i would like to get some feedback from you all. what would be the most ideal/loudest setup for me with the equipment i have now?

I have orion 2500D for power and 200amp alt, xtra yellowtop batt for electrical.

Should i

-get another btl(only problem is the one i got has special inner core heatsink that supposedly isn't an option on btl's yet) and have the subs little underpowered

- build a new box(possibly bigger, up to 8 cu ft) that would house the btl or the destroyer alone

- go with another sub(s) all together.

the subs i have are both dual 1's

i'm trying to spend as little as possible to get my setup the way i want it and make use of what i have so far.

i know the btl is a pretty capable sub and can handle lots of power but will a bigger box make it that much louder, i would most likely drop it down to .5 ohms instead of running at 2ohms if i use it.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i have a 15 inch RE mt/TC sounds Uberwoofer if yhour interested that amp is also perfect for it. The box would be right around what you have now too
thanks for the offer but if i go with one sub i would liek to try one of the ones i have first since they both are in perfect working condition

These 2 subs are completely diff beasts..but if you have multiple destroyers and just one btl; i would sell the btl...and get my cash back

edit.........and make a new box also

I only have one btl and one destroyer, i've had my destroyer sent in 2x and this is third time have the destroyer in my posession again but i dont have multiple ones(though i wish, haha), sorry for not making it clearer

yea tying to see what i want to do first before i build another box, another 4 cu ft or a bigger one if it gets that much louder to be worth taking up another seat in back of my extended cab truck

Getting a destroyer in good condish is a biatch.

I would get another BTL, talk to Scott and ask him to build you one with the heat sink. Im sure he will do it since its a special case.

Hmm. The path of least cost is to design and build a new box that does not leak. If you think the box is leaking (alot) the you should be hugh increase in output with both subs in a correctly design enclosure.

So you have 3 Destroyers and 1 BTL? Well, I vote for you to sell the BTL, keep 1 Destroyer, and sell the other 2 to me. I won't mind making another 2 18"s to match mine... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

BTL > Destroyer
And I own an 18" Destroyer, so I'm not just putting them down...
BTL > Destroyer in SPL with X gobs of power.

If you wish to retain any SQ and still have more than enough SPL for a daily driver, go with the Destroyer.

Btw, last I checked with David, the CSP is only similar as far as the (B-stock) motor goes. Both of my 18" Destroyers have 4 layer flatwound copper coils that I don't remember the CSP having... Quote me if I'm wrong.

The destroyer seems to have some reliability issues..... I've got one right now that someone is putting the turd polish on to see if he can get it working....

They like to "destroy" themselves.

SPL wise from having extensive experience with both drivers the BTL > Destroyer. The Destroyer is more hype than anything...

I believe Destroyers had factory issues. Poor initial build quality if you ask me. AZNJ are you reffering to the 15" Destroyer I sent you? The one the spider ripped on? If so, all reliability issues should be taken care of now as David put it.

Again, if you're looking to compete or just for highER #s, get the BTL.

Well, here is my thing with it....

#1 Spider ripped....

#2 Top Plate decided to move a 1/2 inch. (During the motor rebuild they reconed it so spider problem was fixed)

#3 AGAIN Spider ripped.... (Broke away form the former, go figure, because the 4 inch voice coil doesn't give you enough play in the spider)

They don't sound bad... Until they stop working....

And just a little aside, I am NOT one to abuse speakers...

yea that was the 2nd one i had(1st was the one i got that had the shifted motor), sent that in to david and i now have the fixed(reconed) version of that one...

you interested in buying my destroyer maybe?

I would love to get another btl but kind of need some money first

I see some say to get the btl, if i run two btl's in an approx 8 cu ft box off my one 2500d, will that be enough juice for them?

or should i see better numbers off one btl in a good enclosure?

thanks again for the comments

That happend to 2 of the 3 destroyers I had during shipping. I shipped them all from fed ex around the same time same way for each one, made sure packaging was solid everytime and still 2 of the top plates shifted...

It was a big problem on some of them I guess. I think RE did something different when they rebuilt the motor... So hopefully it doesn't happen again...
