bridging a 4 channel amp into 2 ohms?

I want to install a 4 channel amp in my mustang. I want 2 channels to power my front components and bridge the other 2 to run 1 sub. I have a dual 4ohm ed sub and was wondering if I run the fronts at 4 ohms will the amp be able to run the sub at 2 ohms? Was thinkin of using a kicker amp. Most of the stats I see for bridged output is at 4 ohms.

What do you mean seriously? I looked at the specs and I was asking if I could use all 4 channels in 4 ohms and the 1 channel in 2 ohms. Sorry Ive never ran a 5 channel amp before and no where on the specs does it tell me its ok. Just looking for some advice!

Yeah, and your getting advice. Again, look at the specs, it will tell you what you CAN do.

By the way, I have never used a 5 ch. amp either, but if the specs give you wattage at 4 ohms only then it's probably (and I use the term probably loosley) a good idea to only run it at 4 ohms. Typically companies want to give you the biggest number possible so they can charge more for it and so you will want it more. Therefore if it is 2 ohm stable, that would be a bigger number, so they put that number in the specs. In the case of this amp it is 4 ohm stable, so they put that number in the specs.

Is that clear enough for ya?

I understand all that already and in the specs it says its 2 ohm stable. I just want to know if with a 5 channel amp, can you rund the 4 channels in 4 ohms while running the 1 channel in 2 ohms? I cant get much clearer than that and it doesnt state that anywhere in the specs.

you really need to learn how to read, I just went to Soundstream's website and it clearly states it.

* RMS Power @ 4 ohm: 60W x 4 + 175W x 1

* RMS Power @ 2 ohm: 90W x 4 + 240W x 1

* RMS Power @ 4 ohm Mono: 180W x 2 + 240W x 1

What does it say there? 4 or 2 ohms x4 and 4 ohms x2 or 1 which means you CAN ONLY DO 4 OHMS, WHETHER IT BE BRIDGING 2 CHANNELS OR USING THE 1 MONO CHANNEL. YOU WILL GETT 240 WATTS USING ONE CHANNEL, BUT ONLY AT 4 OHMS! Again, srsly?

Im sorry Im not too educated when it comes to car audio thats why I come here to the pros. Just have some patience with me here. I know you say I will get 240 watts at 4 ohms with the mono channel but it states that when running the other 4 channels bridged. It say 175 watts when running the other 4 channels at 4 ohms. Does the 1 channels have anything to do with the 4 channels configuration? I dont want to bridge the other 4 channels I want to use them for all 4 of my mids and still get the 240 watts from the 1 channel. Can I do this yes or no? If yes than why does it say 175w when the other 4 are at 4 ohms. Sorry for my confusion but like I said, Ive never used a 5 channel amp before.

deductive reasoning???

they company is not going to list every possible configuration that a multi channel amp can set up to. channel 1-5 can run at a nominal impedance of 2 ohms or higher. take your pic of how you run it.

Ok, soundstream cleared it up fo rme:

Yes you can. Each channel is stable down to whatever impedance independently. For this amp the sub channel is good down to 2 ohms and same with the four channel section. If you bridged the 4 channels into 2 channels it will be 4 ohm stable.

So I guess they are independant of each other thats what I really needed to know. Thanx guys and sorry for the stupid questions. Now, whats your opinions on the amp? Do they run cool and do they meet or exceed the rated watts?

atleast you didn't start another thread to ask that, Thank God!!!

Soundstream's older stuff is awesome, their newer stuff is still good and I'd run them. last I check they do rated.
