breaking in my sub

just got my sub and started breaking it in everytime the bass hits it rattles but if i apply a lil pressure to the back of the cone it stops its free air right now could that be the prob if not what the hell is goin on

I think its busted, everytime i broke a sub in it sounded normal.

Why free-air? If you mean no box AND no baffle (just sitting on the floor), that may be the problem. Speakers themselves, if not mounted rigid, will actually resonate.

edit: do not apply pressure, or even touch, the cone while the speaker is performing
