bracing inside box

I've heard a lot of pros and cons to common and seperate chambers but it always seems to get back to bracing. Is bracing really that important? wont a little bit of box flex help the sound out? I've always used bracing because i was told it was the right thing to do but i'm just wondering.

Whether you need bracing or not depends on the thickness of the wood the box is made of and the size the box will be.

Thick & small = no bracing usually

Thick & large = bracing would be advised

Thin & large = brace that muther!

But is box flex that dig of a deal? i've never dealt with it before, but what does it affect?

It can be if you're using high xmax subs with high powered amps.

The box wants to act like a sub's cone, it will naturally want to vibrate with the low frequencies (where the larger box will make this even more noticable) , so if you can add bracing it might be a good idea.

So if i build a box of 3/4" mdf 40" wide i would want to brace it so the box wont fall apart? or will it effect the frequency output of the sub? i know if you brace the box it should get tighter response just from the sturdier box.

Would you recommend 3or4" braces going across or basically putting in a divider with the center cut out. meaning taking a piece of mdf and sizing it for a divider but just using the outside 4 inces all the way around? a pic would be easier but i hope you know what i mean.
