Box volume?

I'm trying to have 2 DD 3512 E's in a custom ported box built to specs. My question is I was wondering would it make a difference if I use minimum volume compared to max ie: 3.5 cube compared to 4 cubes. Would it make a difference in sound? aka would 4 cubes hit harder than 3.5 if they're both built to specs? Either one would be tuned to 40hz
