i few weeks i hooked a friend of mine up with a trade were he ended up getting a new re mx 12" sub. i made a box (moe's lesters) that was i think 2.25 cubic feet and tuned to 33hz, the sub in this box sounds slappy muddy basicly like chit. he is underpowering it a bit with a pheonix gold 1200.1 ( i think ). the sub is wired in series to show a 4ohm load i beleave. why would this setup sound so bad? its all installed in xtra cab truck. i thought it would pound. any ideas?

leak in the box?
maybe, but i sealed all the joints on the inside pretty well. there is a alot of port noise. 33.something port area, it shouldnt sound that bad, do you think thats enough. would the way the sub is wired to the amp (+ to - and - to +) matter? cause we mounted the sub and forgot which wire was possitive and which was negitive.

his amp is Phoenix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 specs:

Amplifier Type: Mono

RMS Power: 1200W x 1 @ 4 Ohms

THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: n/a

Bridged RMS Power: 1400W x 1 @ 2 Ohms

Speaker Level Inputs: no

Preamp Outputs: yes

Built-In Crossovers: LP

Bass Boost: 0 - 18 dB

Frequency Response: 20-20,000 Hz

Signal to Noise Ratio: >95 dB

Fuse Rating: 80 amps

why is this setup sounding like a moose farting
